Two Suspected cultists beheaded in Yenagoa
Two youths suspected to be cultists were beheaded yesterday in the Famgbe community of Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State during a supremacy battle between rival cult groups, Greenlanders and Debam also known as Bobos.
Three other persons were also killed in the rival cult clashes in different locations in Obele, St. Peters Church and Swali in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Although the cause of the bloody clash remains sketchy, LEADERSHIP gathered that it allegedly started with the killing of a senior ranking member of the Bobos by the rival group.
Sources said that a Greenlander was macheted to death in front of a church along Swali Road, others were killed inside the notorious Obele area during the confrontation between the cult groups.
Some residents claimed that the battle was between the “Obele Boys: and the “St. Peters Boys”.
The incident has forced the residents to be moving out of the troubled zone as the boys move about with their dangerous weapons.
One of the residents said that the killing of a leader of the Greenlanders was responsible for the renewed war.
An indigene of Famgbe community, who pleaded anonymity, said that the beheading of the youths did not occur in the area but in Obele.
The spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, DSP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development as he said, “we have responded by conducting repeated raids on black spots in the area and strategising on how to apprehend the ring leaders.”
He, however, declined comment on the casualty level, saying,”we have not even discovered dead bodies."
