The Public Relations Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bayelsa State, Mr. Utong Awajionyi Christian , who also serves as the Head of Voters Education and Electoral officer has met with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Chapter.
The meeting, which took place at the NUJ Press Centre in Yenagoa, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Commission and the media in promoting credible elections and deepening democratic values.
Mr. Utong W. Christian, emphasized the critical role of journalists in sensitizing the public on electoral processes, voters’ rights, and the importance of peaceful participation in elections. He assured the NUJ of INEC’s commitment to transparency and continuous voter education ahead of forthcoming electoral activities in the state.
In his remarks, the NUJ Vice Chairman- Dr. Inebaraton Preye appreciated INEC for recognizing the media as a key partner in democracy. He pledged the Union’s readiness to support the Commission in its enlightenment campaigns to ensure free, fair, and credible polls in Bayelsa State.
The engagement ended with a call for sustained synergy between INEC and journalists to build public trust in the electoral process.
