GbaramatuVoice CEO Gives Back to Alma Mater in Oporoza, Donates Books and Rewards Former Teacher

Post by Abigail pereowei »

It was an emotional homecoming on Thursday as the CEO/MD of GbaramatuVoice, Jacob Abai, alongside members of his team, returned to his alma mater, Fiyewei Primary School, Oporoza, headquarters of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, as part of activities marking the media house’s 10th anniversary.

Standing before the pupils who now occupy the same classrooms where he once sat as a young boy, Abai gave back to the school that shaped his foundation. He donated 1,200 notebooks and 1,000 pens to the pupils and presented ₦500,000 to the teachers in recognition of their tireless service.

But the most emotional moment came when Abai called out his former teacher of over three decades ago, Mr. Ebikoro Lemon. In front of the pupils, teachers, and community members, he honored him with a ₦500,000 reward, describing the gesture as a heartfelt token of appreciation to the man who helped lay the foundation of his future.

Beyond the donations, Abai pledged to establish the GbaramatuVoice Young Minds Club (GVYMC) under the GbaramatuVoice Media Foundation. The initiative, he explained, will mentor and inspire pupils and students across primary and secondary schools, with a focus on nurturing leadership, academic excellence, and community values from an early age.

He further pledged to sponsor the enrolment fees of the next set of Primary 6 final-year pupils, assuring the school of his unwavering commitment to education in Oporoza and beyond.

Receiving the items, the Headmaster, Mr. Momosi Emmanuel, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school, noting that many pupils had stayed away from classes at the start of the term due to lack of notebooks and pens. He said the donation would bring about a mass return of the children, ensuring learning continued without hindrance.

With over 250 pupils currently enrolled in Fiyewei Primary School, the gesture was described by teachers, pupils, and community members as a powerful reminder that education remains the greatest gift.

The event drew excitement among pupils, teachers, and community members, who described the gesture as a demonstration of gratitude, mentorship, and commitment to education.
