The forum brought together leaders, policymakers, civil society actors, and citizens to critically examine the current state of democracy in Africa. Discussions highlighted persistent challenges such as weak institutions, corruption, exclusionary politics, and the growing erosion of public trust. Speakers underscored the urgency of building stronger democratic systems anchored on justice, accountability, and inclusiveness.

Distinguished personalities graced the event, including former Nigerian President H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, Ghanaian President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the ECOWAS Commission H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso H.E. Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo, and Nigerian Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others. Their contributions enriched the dialogue, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges and prospects of democracy on the continent.

The gathering reaffirmed the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation’s unwavering belief in democracy as the surest path to peace, stability, and sustainable development in Africa. Despite its current challenges, participants agreed that democracy remains Africa’s most viable framework for progress.

The voices heard in Accra carried a common message of hope that by working together, Africans can nurture more inclusive, just, and resilient societies for generations to come.
