Niger Delta ex-agitator, self-styled General Endurance Amagbein, has congratulated Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on his recent appointment as South-South Coordinator of the National Steering Committee for the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme.
Amagbein also commended President Bola Tinubu for finding Governor Diri worthy of the appointment, describing it as a strategic channel to bring development closer to the grassroots through sustainable projects and community-based interventions aimed at improving living standards, creating jobs, and deepening national cohesion.
In a statement issued his aide, Mightywind Dudafa to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Amagbein expressed confidence in Governor Diri’s capacity to deliver on the new assignment, noting that the Bayelsa helmsman has consistently demonstrated a genuine passion for grassroots development over politics.
Amagbein, popularly known as Adaka Boro II, said Governor Diri will ensure that the Renewed Hope Programme has far-reaching impact across all communities in the South-South, describing the appointment as “a square peg in a square hole.”
According to him, the appointment will further empower Governor Diri to deliver more dividends of democracy to the grassroots, as he has spent the past five years taking development to rural communities in Bayelsa State.
The ex-agitator stated that, regardless of criticisms, no one can deny the governor’s commitment to the development of Bayelsa, particularly his resolve to complete the three senatorial roads to ensure that every community in the state is accessible by road.
While congratulating the governor for officially joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, Amagbein urged him to be a father to all and to resolve lingering crises within the party, just as he did in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said:
“In 2019/2020, many people were aggrieved and left the PDP, but when Douye Diri took over the leadership of the state and the party, he unified both. Those who vowed never to return to the PDP came back without grudges, that’s Douye Diri for you.”
“In the APC, there are factions, and for years, they have operated parallel leadership structures with two party secretariats. The leaders have also been in court over issues of betrayal and victimisation, and the governor is aware of these challenges.”
“Now that he has joined the party, his first move should be to bring all stakeholders together to resolve all pending disputes, just as he did in the PDP, to ensure lasting peace and promote the inflow of democratic dividends to our people,” Amagbein added.
