FG, China, NDRBDA sites $150m deep sea Fishing project in Bayelsa

The Federal Government and the Chinese Multinational Corporation in partnership with Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA) have concluded plans to establish a multi billion naira Deep Sea Fishing project site in between Nembe and Brass Local Government councils of Bayelsa State.

The project, according to the Coordinating Managing Director of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA), Prince Ebitimi Amgbare is a private-Public partnership funding worth over $250m.

Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, in company of the Chinese Investment Company represented by Malam Bilsha Mohammed, the Executive Director, Engineering,NDRBDA, Mr . Chuks Erhire, representative of King Edmond Dakoru, Amayanabo of Nembe Kingdom and member of the Nembe Chief Council,Chief Jude Ikelemote, said the project is a deliberate action by the Federal Government to introduce modern technology to commercial fishing in the deep sea and ensure local fishermen are trained and empowered.

Amgbare noted that the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu is leveraging on genuine partnership on the adoption of technology based trawlers and fishing technique to generate community participation and employment generation.

" If we decide to wait for budget, the project may not come to fruition. But with these ongoing project, the investor have come for inspection and when such is concluded, we will sign the tripartite agreement "

On his part, the representative of the Chinese Investment Company represented by Malam Bilsha Mohammed, said though the take off of the project may take 120 days, the planning and deliberations have been ongoing for over six months.

He further explained that the project will include the host Communities, the Federal Government and the Chinese Investment company, " it is a public-private partnership. it is for the social and infrastructural development of communities. The project will improve the State and Federal Government IGR, increase employment and engagement of indigenes, provide modern technology for the harvest of fishes and sea foods."

In his comment, the representative of King Edmond Dakoru, Amayanabo of Nembe Kingdom and member of the Nembe Chief Council, Chief Jude Ikelemote, assured the visiting NDRBDA executives and representatives of the Chinese company that the Nembe and Brass Kingdon are always ready to support any gainful activities that will provide social well being of the people.
