Bayelsa State government has challenged journalists to be balanced in their reportage, stating that they are partners in the progress and development of the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai stated this during the transparency briefing for the months of May, June and July, in Yenagoa.
While appreciating the good works of journalists in promoting the policies and programmes of the state government, Mrs. Obiyai further stated that, even as 2027 draws close, they should not compromise the ethics of their profession, and help in combating rumor mongering.
"This is a tradition in the state that we have institutionalized to explain to the public on all income and expenditures.
This policy philosophy is the explanation behind the rigorous ongoing projects you see across the state. We have and will continue to meet our financial obligations on all of these projects, because it is the Douye Diri administration's intention and hope that all these projects would be completed," Mrs. Obiyai stated.
The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Treasury, Revenues and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulou, later gave out different figures to the media covering the state income and expenditures for the period, indicating that Bayelsa State is financially balanced to see all the ongoing projects to completion.
Others who joined the briefing session were the Accountant-General of the State, Tokoni Ifidi and the Director General, New Media to the Governor, Dr. Kola Oredipe.
