Food Security: Ekeremor Council Chairman Joins Counterparts to Explore Innovative Agriculture in Rwanda

The Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Onniye Isaac, was part of a high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, on an exploratory innovation tour to Kigali, Rwanda.
The delegation comprised the Commissioners of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Marine and Blue Economy, alongside top government functionaries and heads of departments from various local government councils in Bayelsa State.
Also in attendance were the Chairmen of the Local Government Areas of Brass, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw, Ogbia, and Yenagoa. They all participated in a week-long training programme on modern agriculture and aquaculture practices in Kigali, Rwanda.
The training was designed to equip participants with cutting-edge knowledge and technology-driven skills in agriculture and aquaculture, in alignment with the state government’s vision of enhancing food security, creating job opportunities, and reducing unemployment.
Hon. Onniye Isaac, expressing delight at the successful completion of the programme, commended the Bayelsa State Government, particularly Governor Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for the foresight in enabling local governments to replicate the blue economy through modern mechanization and climate-smart food production technologies.
He further assured that the experience and knowledge gained in Kigali will be fully implemented in Ekeremor Local Government Area, noting that the soil and climate of the area are highly suitable for both agriculture and aquaculture practices.
