In a significant development, the Bayelsa State Centre for Youth Development, in collaboration with stakeholders of the Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council, has successfully brokered peace and unity within the organization, after a two-day extensive stakeholders' engagement held on August 21st and August 22nd, 2025. At the Secretariat Complex of the Centre for Youth Development.
The engagement followed the suspension of the National President, Comr. Jeremiah Magnus Gbeinbo, and the Spokesman, Comr. Richman Blackie, on August 20, 2025, over allegations of misconduct, unilateral decision-making, and disregard for the statutory roles of other executive council members.
However, after the stakeholders' engagement, several key resolutions were reached. These include the lifting of the suspension of the National President and Spokesman, returning them to their statutory positions.
Additionally, the proposed National Congress for the formation and inauguration of an Electoral Committee which was earlier slated for Sunday 24th of August 2025, has been rescheduled to hold on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Oporoma Town, the headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, for the formation and inauguration of Electoral Committee.
Other resolutions reached include the constitution of an 8-man Convention Planning Committee alongside the Electoral Committee to ensure a smooth transition process. The stakeholders also resolved that all organs of the council would work in unity of purpose, dropping all grievances and sentiments for the overall growth and advancement of the organization going forward.
Stakeholders present at the meeting included notable figures such as Comr. Igali Robert JP, Director-General Bayelsa Centre for Youth Development; Hon. Temple Newman Dickson, Deputy Director-General (Central) Centre for Youth Development; Comr. Julius Ayibadinini Kuraideidei Esq, First President Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council; and Comr. Sogo Oyeins, Second President Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council, among others.
The stakeholders have called on all members to support the Comr. Jeremiah Gbeinbo-led Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council in conducting a hitch-free election and transition of new leadership in due time.
This development is expected to usher in a new era of peace and progress for the organization.
