The Bayelsa state government, through its Ministry of Community Development, is assessing the ocean surge affecting the fishing settlement at Okpoama in Brass Local Government Area. This initiative aims to address coastline erosion in the state.
During the assessment, Commissioner Belemote Alfred Watson emphasized the government's commitment to the welfare of the community. He noted the importance of hearing from residents about their challenges to determine effective solutions.
Local leaders, Chief Dimu Elebiju and Miss Andrew Bogofanyo, urged the state government for assistance, highlighting the ocean's encroachment on their homes and the rising issues of sea piracy. They requested support in the form of relief materials and measures to combat erosion.
