The Ekeremor Local Government Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairmen have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
In a meeting held at Toru-Orua, the CDC Chairmen cautioned against divisive tendencies being promoted by individuals and groups who, according to them, do not mean well for Ekeremor people and are bent on truncating the unity of Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
The leaders praised Senator Dickson for his consistent efforts in fostering peace and unity across the senatorial district since his days as Governor of Bayelsa State, a legacy they noted he has sustained in the Senate.
They observed that the so-called “Ekeremor Senate agenda” is a ploy orchestrated by external forces, including political actors outside the district, to weaken the bond between Sagbama and Ekeremor. According to them, without Sagbama and Ekeremor working together, the aspiration of producing a governor from Ekeremor in 2027 would be jeopardized.
The CDC Chairmen recalled that Ekeremor had already produced a Senator for two terms in the person of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, but without corresponding development for the area. They emphasized that unity, not rivalry, is the path to progress, noting that while Sagbama has produced Senators, Ekeremor has also benefitted by producing a Federal Minister twice—opportunities Sagbama has never had.
The Chairmen further noted that most of the landmark projects in Ekeremor, including the Sagbama-Ekeremor road, the Agge Deep Seaport, and several key appointments, came through Senator Dickson’s leadership as Governor. They maintained that it is only logical for the people to rally behind him to secure the governorship seat for Ekeremor in 2027.
They condemned attempts by some leaders—allegedly backed by high-ranking APC figures from outside Bayelsa State—to instigate division in Bayelsa West. According to the Chairmen, this campaign is self-serving, unpatriotic, and poses a direct threat to the collective interest of the Ijaw Nation.
The statement described the ongoing campaign as “hate speech and reckless agitation” which has the potential to sow unnecessary discord in Ekeremor. It urged those promoting the Senate zoning agitation to desist immediately, stressing that “a whole local government cannot contest for Senate or House of Representatives elections.”
The CDC Chairmen reiterated their stand that the focus for now should be on sustaining Sagbama–Ekeremor unity and working with Senator Dickson to actualize the 2027 governorship project.
They concluded that the interest of the Ijaw Nation is best served by supporting Senator Seriake Dickson, who remains a symbol of pride and strength for Bayelsa West and the Ijaw Nation at large.
