Former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said Nigeria’s political atmosphere is filled with betrayals and lies.

Jonathan made the remark in Benin City, Edo State, during the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff and former deputy governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe. The event attracted several dignitaries, including former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, Ibrahim Dakwambo of Gombe State, among others.

Speaking at the event, Jonathan described Oghiadomhe as a dependable ally who has remained consistent and trustworthy over the years.

“You find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially during my 2015 election. But Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf,” Jonathan said.

The former president added that Oghiadomhe has been one of the few friends who stood firmly by him both during his presidency and after.

Also speaking, Edo State deputy governor, Dennis Idahosa, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo, noted that the foundation laid by Oghiadomhe as deputy governor remains relevant in the state’s governance today.

Former governor Lucky Igbinedion said he had no reservation in handing over the affairs of the state to Oghiadomhe whenever he had to travel abroad, describing him as a trusted deputy.

On his part, former governor Adams Oshiomhole said Oghiadomhe had always been consistent in his loyalty, stressing that “wherever Jonathan is, is where he would be.” He also commended Oghiadomhe’s wife, Louisa, for being a dependable partner.
