Stakeholders across the Niger Delta gathered for the Social Media Listening Stakeholder Validation Meeting organized by Search for Common Ground (SFCG), reaffirming the importance of a community-centered approach to transforming criminality and violence in the region.
The meeting, which brought together civil social media practitioners and security agencies, was designed to validate findings from SFCG’s social media listening project. The initiative tracks conversations, trends, and narratives shaping public perception and community responses to insecurity in the Niger Delta.
Discussions centered on how online narratives can either fuel or de-escalate violence, and the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to promote peace-positive messaging.
In her remarks, the SFCG team emphasized that true transformation in the Niger Delta can only be achieved when communities are at the heart of the process. By listening to community voices online and offline, the project seeks to strengthen resilience against crime, militancy, and social unrest.
Stakeholders pledged their continued support in advancing peacebuilding efforts, using digital platforms and grassroots engagement as complementary tools for sustainable stability and development in the Niger Delta.
