The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has applauded the Bayelsa State Government for its substantial contributions toward enhancing the operational capacity and service delivery of the agency in the State.
The commendation was made by the Controller of Corrections, NCoS, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Imo Ikahokhuele, during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo, SAN, at his office on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Mr. Ikahokhuele noted that the purpose of the visit was to convey the agency’s profound appreciation to the Governor Douye Diri-led administration for its unwavering support in strengthening the correctional system in Bayelsa State.
He highlighted one of the key interventions of the State Government— the construction of a 240-bed capacity correctional facility aimed at decongesting the Okaka Custodial Centre. The project, which complements a similar 240-capacity facility being constructed by the Federal Government, is now over 85% completed.
Mr. Ikahokhuele further thanked Gov. Diri on behalf of the Controller General, NCoS, Mr. Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for providing operational vehicles and other vital amenities that have enhanced mobility and improved general conditions within the command.
In his response, the Honourable Attorney-General, Mr. Biriyai Dambo (SAN), thanked the NCoS for their show of gratitude and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to supporting the agency.
He emphasized that the administration’s interventions are aligned with Governor Douye Diri’s ASSURED Agenda, which prioritizes security, peace, and institutional effectiveness across the State.
Mr. Dambo further assured the NCoS of the Ministry’s continued collaboration with the Bayelsa State Command in advancing criminal justice reforms and strengthening custodial infrastructure.
Present at the meeting were the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Iyobosa E. Apulu; Somkenechukwu Okechukwu Esq.; Assistant Controller of Corrections, Agbalalah Oyindeinyifa F.; Deputy Superintendent of Corrections, Gbiagbia Biobelemoye; Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, Isari Gbasi; and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, Ebitimi Dickson.
