Governor Douye Diri Officially Joins APC in Bayelsa: A New Political Chapter!

Post by Abigail pereowei »

In a significant political move, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a high-profile ceremony held in Yenagoa, the state capital. This event marks a pivotal shift in the political landscape of Bayelsa, coming on the heels of recent defections to the APC by Senator Konbowei Friday Benson and Senator Benson Agadaga.

The ceremony was further bolstered by the presence of Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the Speaker of the State Assembly, who led a group of lawmakers and appointees from the Prosperity Administration in making their transition to the APC.

The event drew notable figures from the APC, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Both leaders hailed Governor Diri as a unifier and a dedicated governor who has fostered significant development for the people of Bayelsa State. Their remarks highlighted not only Governor Diri's individual contributions but also the promise of new alliances within the APC.

Governor Diri’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) comes just weeks after he resigned from the party, signaling a dramatic realignment in the state's political affiliations. His arrival at the APC was celebrated by other governors in attendance, including Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Peter Mba of Enugu, Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, and Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed Governor Diri with the presentation of the party’s flag, expressing enthusiasm for his involvement in the APC. Notable local APC leaders were also present, including Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, MD of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA).

The event attracted thousands of supporters from all eight local government areas in Bayelsa State, who enthusiastically waved flags and chanted slogans in celebration of Governor Diri’s entrance into the APC.

In his address, Governor Diri emphasized that his decision to join the APC was motivated by the best interests of the people of Bayelsa State, rather than personal gain. He committed to providing the necessary leadership to promote unity among APC members in the state, setting the stage for a collaborative political future.
