Vice President Kashim Shettima, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and UNILAG Vice Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola have all hailed Governor Douye Diri for his visionary leadership and transformative impact on education and governance in Bayelsa State.
At a special event held at the University of Lagos, the institution launched a book titled “Leadership Chronicles of Governor Douye Diri” and endowed a Professorial Chair on Leadership and Good Governance in his honour — a recognition of his commitment to building a knowledge-driven society.
Represented by Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Vice President Shettima described Diri’s leadership as “refreshing, compassionate and inclusive.” Governor Mutfwang praised him as a “leader whose legacy will endure long after his tenure,” citing achievements in education, healthcare, security, and the independent power project lighting up Bayelsa.
UNILAG VC Prof. Ogunsola noted that Diri’s public service provides “valuable insights into governance and peacebuilding in the Niger Delta.”
In his response, Governor Diri dedicated the honour to the people of Bayelsa, pledging to keep working for progress and accountability while supporting academic research that benefits both Bayelsa and Nigeria.
Over ₦1 billion was pledged at the event by dignitaries, public officials, corporate bodies, and citizens in support of the initiative.
