🚨 BREAKING: Residents Denied Voting Rights as Armed Thugs Disrupt Elections – APC Calls for Cancellation

Post by Abigail pereowei »

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Atta, have raised serious concerns over the violent disruption of Saturday’s rerun elections in **Bagwai and Shanono LGAs.

According to reports, armed thugs allegedly hired by the NNPP stormed polling units, intimidating voters and forcing residents to flee their communities. The APC is now demanding that INEC cancel the election and declare the results null and void.

What Happened?
🔹 Pre-election peace pact violated: All parties, including APC and NNPP, had agreed to a violence-free election.
🔹 APC’s peaceful rally: Just days before the election, a massive APC rally led by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin was conducted without incident.
🔸 Sudden violence: The next day, armed thugs reportedly imported from neighboring states (Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina) invaded Shanono/Bagwai, attacking opposition supporters even the APC candidate’s home was targeted.

Election Day Chaos
Despite early warnings to security agencies, thugs took over polling units by 5 AM, hijacking ballot materials and disenfranchising voters. Many residents fled to nearby villages (Gwarzo & Bichi) for safety.

Minister Atta stated:
How can we uphold democracy when citizens are chased from their homes before voting? An election under threats is no election at all.

Call to Action
The APC is urging supporters to remain calm while demanding justice. Security agencies must prosecute those arrested to prevent future incidents.
