Abuja, Nigeria – The Publisher/CEO of GbaramatuVoice, Jacob Abai, has said that the Niger Delta is no longer defined by militancy in the media but is now being celebrated for its culture, beauty, and heritage.
Speaking at the Niger Delta Night of Honor 2025, held on August 28 at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Abai reflected on the journey of GbaramatuVoice over the past decade.
“When we came on board in 2015, the national and international media were dominated by one story about the Niger Delta — militancy,” he noted. “Any search on the internet or social media then would present militancy photos as the defining image of our region. But the Niger Delta is more than militancy; it is one of the most beautiful environments in the world, rich in culture and heritage.”
According to him, GbaramatuVoice was founded to change that narrative. “We made a promise to tell a different story. Ten years after, the narrative has changed. Today, when you search, what you see are our cultural images, our breathtaking environment, and the true spirit of our people. That is what GbaramatuVoice came to do,” Abai said.
The event, organized as part of activities marking #GbaramatuVoice10, brought together dignitaries, cultural leaders, and stakeholders across the Niger Delta and Nigeria.
