A Warning to Comr. Jeremiah Magnus Gbeinbo: Desist from Fueling Crisis in Southern Ijaw Constituency II

Post by Abigail pereowei »

The recent Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council Congress in Oporoma has brought to the fore the simmering tensions within the organization, particularly with regards to the Nomination of Electoral Committee Representative of Southern Ijaw Constituency II.

The decision to suspend the Southern Ijaw constituency II from the Electoral Committee process due to internal crisis is a clear indication that all is not well. Despite this, Comr. Jeremiah Magnus Gbeinbo, the National President of the Southern Ijaw Federated Youth Council, and his cronies seem hell-bent on exacerbating the situation.

It is on record that the Congress, and stakeholders of Southern Ijaw Constituency II resolved that no one person or group should submit any nomination on behalf of Southern Ijaw Constituency II until the issues surrounding the nomination are amicably settled. This decision was taken to prevent further conflict and ensure peace and unity within the organization.

However, Comr. Jeremiah Gbeinbo and his cohorts are reportedly planning to disregard this resolution and unilaterally announce a representative for the constituency, despite not being an indigene of Southern Ijaw Constituency II.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that a Peace Building Stakeholders Meeting was held at the Secretariat Complex of the Bayelsa State Center For Youth Development on the 21st and 22nd of August 2025, where a decision was reached to unite the Executive Members of the organization with the President, who was suspended alongside the Spokesman, Comr. Richman Blackie, on account of highhandedness and non-inclusive leadership. As part of the resolutions that led to the lifting of their suspension, Comr. Princess Bidi Ayibanimi, Woman Leader, and Comr. Franklin Okorie, Treasurer, both from Constituency II, were mandated to liaise with stakeholders and nominate the ELECO Representative for the constituency.

Reports indicate that the duo, in consultation with stakeholders, nominated Comr. Igburu Dressman and submitted his name to Comr. Jeremiah Gbeinbo to be confirmed and subsequently be inaugurated. However, the President rejected the nomination for personal interests and highhandedness, which eventually led to the crisis that played out at the Oporoma Congress.

Such actions by Comr. Jeremiah Gbeinbo would be a recipe for disaster, further deepening the crisis and causing irreparable harm to the fragile peace that exists in the constituency. The people of Southern Ijaw Constituency II will not take kindly to any attempt to impose an ELECO Representative on them, and it will be resisted outrightly.

The Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Hon. Target Segibo, and the Majority Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday-Bubou Edwin Obolo, are already working tirelessly to resolve the issues and ensure peace and stability in the constituency, hence we expect that the efforts of this revered leaders to be respected and honoured.

In the interest of peace and unity, we urge Comr. Jeremiah Gbeinbo and his cohorts to desist from any actions that will further intensify the crisis in Southern Ijaw Constituency II. The issues surrounding the nomination must be amicably settled by all stakeholders in the constituency, and any solution must be inclusive and reflective of the collective interests of the youths.

We will be watching closely, and any attempt to impose a Representative on the constituency will be met with the stiff resistance it deserves. The peace and unity of Southern Ijaw Constituency II must be protected at all costs, and those who seek to undermine it will be held accountable.
