The House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, South-South Zone A, pays a courtesy call to the members of the Bayelsa State Elders Council.

The Chairman of Bayelsa State Elders Council/ immediate past Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd), in his welcome address immensely thank the committee for deeming it fit to come and pay this courtesy call to them, as they are serious critical Stakeholders in any development in Bayelsa State. The Elders Council primarily is to partner with government on the area of development. Development has various aspects, as we relate with government on which areas that are beneficial as far as sustainable development of the State is concerned.

The Leader of the Delegation of the House Committee on Constitution Review in his remarks thank the Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council and his members for their warm reception. He thank Bayelsa State for having this type of Elders to brainstorm on how to move the state forward. He thank His Excellency, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd) for his leadership, vision and courage. They came to hear their complains and suggestions. Look at State and Local Government Areas creations, electoral reforms, resource control, devolution of powers, etc. He thank Elders Council for receiving them.

The committee's mandate is to review and propose alterations to the 1999 Constitution, addressing issues raised by Nigerians. This includes conducting public hearings, consultations, and utilizing digital platforms to gather input from citizens across the country.
The committee's work is guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives. The committee aims to ensure a transparent and constitutionally compliant process for constitutional review, addressing key issues such as governance, security, fiscal federalism, and inclusive representation.

The member representing Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency/Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review the South-South Zone A, Hon. Chief Fred Agbedi, appreciates the Chairman for granting us this opportunity to host the Zone A of the South South.

Bayelsa State is the host of South-South Zone A, which comprises Bayelsa, Edo and Delta States. The public hearing is taking place on Saturday 19th July, 2025.
