BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT DONATES OFFICE SPACE TO STATE PEACE ARCHITECTURE, RENEWED CALL FOR COLLABORATION WITH PEACE AGE

The Bayelsa State Government has formally presented an office space at the State Secretariat complex, Annex 3, Bayelsa State Ministry of Community Development to the Bayelsa State Peace Architecture to aid the day to day administration and deepen her efforts in Peace building and sustainable peace development across the State.

The Commissioner for Community Development, Hon Alfred Watson Belemote who spoke through the Ministry's Desk Officer in charge of Non Governmental Organizations, NGO Coordination, Mr Apere Nyenami at the formal keys presentation ceremony noted that the State Government is open to meaningful collaboration pointing out that the effort underscores Governor Douye Diri's drive towards building a sustainable peace in line with the Assured Prosperity Agenda.

The presentation which followed the September 2025 edition of its State Peace Architecture monthly meeting also featured the setting up of a Six-Member 2025 World Peace Day Celebration Committee to raise awareness on sustainable peace building on the theme: Action for Peace:Our Ambition for global Peace in line with the Sustainable Development Goals,SDG's to attract development to the State.

The meeting which had in attendance Permanent Secretaries from both the Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr Bonisei Ifiemeya and his Youth Development Counterpart, Mr Olomiete A. T, including representatives from 16 Brigade, Major Agbe M. A, Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, Police, DSS,CSO's,BANGOF, NOA, Human Right Commission,Religious group, Youths group, Women group , Community leaders, Government agencies and appointees discussed the need for strengthening the peace building process in Bayelsa State and possible solutions to tackle drivers of conflicts in the State.

The meeting highlighted the nexus between unemployment and youth restiveness in the State, while lauding Search for Common Ground and her partners for the commencement of the Livelihood Initiative in the 16 participating communities spread across 8 Local Government Areas in Bayelsa State, calling for its design and operations to be extended beyond the 16 communities to mitigate crime and criminality.

Other issues raised at the SPA Meeting held at the conference hall of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Community Development in Yenagoa include: curbing the rising trend of child molestation by parents, substance abuse, pockets of theft recorded by night travellers within the State, and the need for robust collaboration between the Community Peace Architecture, Local Government Peace Architecture as well as the State Peace Architecture.
