Watson attends Diri's defection ceremony to APC, drums support for gov

The Bayelsa state commissioner for Community Development, Hon. Belemote Watson, has hailed Governor Douye Diri as the Bayelsa helmsman officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a groundbreaking ceremony Monday.

The colorful ceremony took place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Ovom in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Speaking after the reception ceremony, Watson was full of gratitude to God for making the day a reality.

Watson eulogized the governor as a father to all with the ability to lead well and right.

The commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to Diri, and called for all Bayelsans to rally round the governor to ensure that the progressive trajectory he has placed the state is on the ascension.

Wherever Diri leads, I follow, he added.

The commissioner however thanked his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunity to serve "under their umbrella."

He then called for a collaborative approach by all members of his new party—the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the sole aim of making Bayelsa state great.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership qualities and disposition.

The defection ceremony was well attended by prominent political figures including by Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima who represented the President, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Others are the APC National Chairperson, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Umo Bassey Eno, His counterpart from Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori etc.
