OGBOTOBO COMMUNITY EMBARKS ON A PEACEFUL PROTEST AGAINST RENAISSANCE AFRICA ENERGY COMPANY LIMITED OVER VIOLATION OF LOC

The leadership and people of Ogbotobo Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State commenced a peaceful protest occupying the Renaissance Africa Energy Company limited (RAECL) Flow Station in Agbayama Field, following the company’s failure to comply with the Nigerian Local Content Act and provisions of the Ogbotobo Community Constitution.

The protest was aimed at drawing attention to what the community describes as long standing marginalization, denial of economic benefits and deliberate disregard for recognized community rights in the oil and gas industry.

Speaking during the Protest, Comrade Akeme Moses, Coordinator of the concerned Youths of the Ogbotobo Federated community emphasized that they are not against development or partnership of the community but will no longer tolerate actions that undermines the rights, welfare and socio-economic interests of the people.

In accordance, Comr Oweilayefa Pereyeibo, Secretary Concerned Youths of Ogbotobo federated Community and Mrs Seleke Josiah, Woman leader of Ogbotobo Federated Community
also registered their dissatisfaction against RAECL.

The protesters stated clearly that they will continue to occupy the flow station until their four point demands are met.

This includes:

1. Immediate termination of the contract awarded to Jomason Resources Limited (Military House Boat Services in Agbayama Filed)

2. ⁠Immediate award and mobilization of the same contract to Jo Oil and Marine Global Limited, being a qualified and indigenous host community choicest contractor.

3. ⁠ A formal written letter response and implementation timeline from RAEC within 72 hours of receiving this letter.

4. ⁠Revoke every other existing contracts which falls within the category of local jobs in favour of registered indigenous contractors from Ogbotobo Federated Community.

The community further urged the government authorities, regulatory agencies, security formations and relevant stakeholders to intervene and ensure that Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited complies with the law, maintain peaceful coexistence and promote sustainable development in the host community.

The protest was enjoined by notable and able youths and chiefs of Ogbotobo community.

In return, a military personnel and team lead of RAEC thanked the protesters for their peaceful conduct and reassured them of their demands to be met in a general meeting by Wednesday 12th November 2025.

The protesters remained peaceful, disciplined and coordinated as they reaffirm their commitment to protecting their environment, their rights and future.
