PINL records near-zero incidents in June, lauds collaboration with host communities, others
Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has reiterated its commitment to the sustainable development of
host communities in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.
Dr. Akpos Mezeh, PINL’s Community Relations Consultant gave the assurance while speaking at the July stakeholders engagement meeting held earlier this week in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Mezeh emphasized that the regular appraisal meetings were borne out of the company's sense of commitment to keep stakeholders updated with developments and progress every month.
This is in line with the firm's values of transparency, accountability and sustainability, he pointed out.
Mezeh explained that PINL has consistently engaged all major stakeholders within its area of responsibility to enable the easy protection of critical national oil and gas assets in the entire Eastern-Corridor.
He revealed that through the strategic engagements, PINL has successfully secured the support of community leaders, government agencies, international oil
companies (IOCs), and security agencies in the fight against pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft.
According to him, this collaborative approach has not only solidified PINL’s relationship with the communities but also forged a united front in safeguarding the national assets under the company's purview.
Speaking on the achievement of the surveillance company, Mezeh delightfully disclosed that PINL has recorded near-zero incidents in the month of June which he said is the core mission of the company to secure the Eastern Corridor pipelines.
His words: "This outstanding result speaks volumes about the strength of our collaboration with host communities and the commitment of our teams on the ground.
"These achievements are rooted in the consistent application of proven strategies—ensuring the safety of our surveillance personnel, timely salary payments, and rapid community dispute
resolution, all contributing to reduced downtime and increased trust.”
On the social interventions undertaken by the firm, Mezeh stated that "as announced in our June stakeholders meeting, PINL has constituted a special committee to
commence the process of selecting eligible beneficiaries for the scholarship programme."
In the area of skill acquisition for women, he disclosed that the surveillance company have finalized discussions with its consultants and partners to fine tune the original programme in line with the peculiarities of the various communities.
The programme, he disclosed is scheduled to commence in 4th Quarter of 2025.
He however listed some challenges faced by the PINL to include information gap in sharing vital information, safety of surveillance guards, stakeholder connivance and leadership disputes in communities
Mezeh, in his presentation, thanked security agencies, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), traditional rulers, as well as the leadership and people of Imo, Abia, Rivers, and Bayelsa states for their support in areas where PINL operates.
He further tasked stakeholders for their honest and constructive feedback on how the company can further enhance its efforts in curbing pipeline vandalism, oil theft, and environmental pollution.
In attendance were traditional rulers, women, youths, security agencies, CSOs and other relevant stakeholders.
