Glitz, Glamour & Royalty: King Bubaraye Dakolo Marks 60 in Grand Style

Post by Abigail pereowei »

It was a day where royalty met elegance and leadership converged with culture. On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa glittered with pageantry as His Royal Majesty, King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom and Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, celebrated his diamond jubilee in grand style.

The celebration was more than a 60th birthday. It also marked the silver jubilee of his marriage to HRM Queen Timinipre Bubaraye Dakolo, alongside the public presentation of his latest books — “Pirates of the Gulf” and “The Kingfisher: An Intimate Portrait of Environmental Injustices in the Niger Delta.”

Bayelsa’s political class turned out in full force. Leading the roll call was the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, who graced the occasion as Special Guest of Honour. The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, served as Guest of Honour, while the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, chaired the grand ceremony.

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the NDDC, lent weight as Chief Launcher, while the elegance of the day was heightened by the presence of Dr. (Mrs) Gloria Diri, who played Mother of the Day. In keeping with tradition, the Royal Father of the Day was HRM Pere Stanley Perediegha Luke-Kalanama VII (P), Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom and Vice Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council.

From traditional rulers to political leaders, business executives to well-wishers across the Niger Delta, the event was a blend of pomp, cultural pride, and celebration of legacy. The banquet hall shimmered with colourful attires, heartfelt tributes, and the unmistakable aura of a monarch deeply revered by his people.

Guests were treated to an unforgettable atmosphere of music, culture, and merriment. Ijaw music legend Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi, aka JKing, and his crew lit up the stage, thrilling the audience with electrifying performances. The Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture followed with dazzling displays that captured the richness of Ijaw heritage.

The celebration was complete with an endless flow of food, drinks, and laughter, making it not just a royal milestone but also one of Bayelsa’s most memorable social events of the year.

A diamond jubilee. A silver marriage. A legacy of books. A day Bayelsa will not forget.
