The sun shone brightly over Amabolou Town as the people of Oporomor Kingdom came together to witness a historic moment, the official presentation of the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty King Oyabebefa Stephen Ebikeme, the Pere-Ekere VII. The ceremony marked the culmination of years of tradition, anticipation, and communal dedication.

Governor Douye Diri, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Barrister Thompson Amule, praised the people for their orderly conduct during the enthronement process. He stressed that strong traditional leadership remains vital to fostering peace, unity, and development across Bayelsa State.

High Chief Dr. Francis Binaebi Gbafade, Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, highlighted the spiritual foundation of the monarchy, explaining that King Ebikeme was divinely chosen and installed on January 8, 2023, in accordance with age-old customs. The chief also announced the formal conclusion of the Interim Committee, which had successfully guided the kingdom through the coronation preparations.

HRM King Oyabebefa Stephen Ebikeme, addressing the gathering with humility and vision, expressed gratitude to Governor Diri, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and all dignitaries present. He offered special thanks to High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), acknowledging him as a steadfast supporter and “pillar of strength.” King Ebikeme promised to uphold transparency, fairness, and the ideals of Ogulakiriyo, vowing inclusive leadership for all his subjects.

The ceremony was a spectacular celebration of culture and heritage. Traditional performances, colourful regalia, and the united presence of the kingdom’s sons and daughters created a truly unforgettable occasion.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were HRM Oboro Gbauraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom; HRM Gbebokedi Ajiri-Oba Oguruyeke, Pere of Tubotoru Kingdom; HRM Godwin Ogunyenbo Alagbabunafa III, Pere of Olodiama Kingdom, Edo State; HRM Egbesuwei Gbanraun, Pere of Gbaraun Kingdom; and Barr. P.S. Erebulu Aduo III, Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, along with chiefs and leaders from Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa States.
