The Executive Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Obarilomate Alale Ollor, has called for increased recruitment opportunities for Eleme youths in the Nigerian Navy, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security cooperation and community development.
Chief Ollor made the appeal during a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS), Onne, where he was received by the Commandant, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman noted that the Navy remains a vital partner in sustaining peace and safeguarding the lives and property of Eleme residents. He said his administration deliberately nurtures cordial relations with security agencies as part of its strategy to ensure effective governance and community protection.
“Our visit today is to deepen partnership with the Navy and strengthen mutual understanding between your command, our council, and the people of Eleme,” Ollor stated. “Security is a foundation for development, and your presence here gives us confidence that we are in safe hands.”
The council boss further urged the Navy to collaborate with the Eleme Local Government on community-based initiatives that promote youth development and enhance security awareness. He raised concerns about illegal activities around the recently demolished trailer park in Ebubu and revealed plans to establish a permanent security post in the area.
“We will not allow the site to become a hideout for crime again,” he said firmly. “Apart from the mosque, no commercial structure will be permitted there. We are setting up measures to ensure constant surveillance.”
Chief Ollor also expressed interest in attending the forthcoming Passing Out Parade (POP) of the training school, emphasizing that young people from Eleme should be encouraged to pursue careers in the Navy and other national security institutions.
“It’s time for our youths to serve their country through the Navy,” he said. “We are ready to partner with the command to provide the necessary support to make that possible.”
In response, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji commended Chief Ollor for his proactive leadership and strong grasp of local security dynamics.
“You have spoken like a visionary leader who understands the importance of collaboration,” Choji remarked. “We value our partnership with the Eleme Council and remain committed to working together to sustain peace in the area.”
The Commandant also highlighted the Navy’s ongoing support for host communities, noting that the training school’s medical centre already provides healthcare services to residents. He pledged continued collaboration and training opportunities for Eleme youths interested in joining the Navy.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of key facilities currently under construction within the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, Onne.
