Bayelsa commissioner joins APC at ward level after defection from PDP

The Bayelsa State commissioner for community development, Hon. Belemote Alfred Watson has been integrated into the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the ward level following his defection to the party alongside the state governor, senator Douye Diri.

The commissioner alongside his followers were received at Brass Ward 04 in Okpoama kingdom at the community Town hall in Brass local government area of Bayelsa State on Saturday.

Speaking after the reception ceremony, Watson was quick to thank God for making the day a reality and a success.

He praised President Bola Tinubu as well as his principal, Governor Douye Diri for their sterling leadership qualities and virtues demonstrated in their projects, programmes and initiatives for the country and state respectively.

The commissioner further speaking, tasked members of the party to take a collaborative approach and work assiduously in synergy, and to uphold peace and harmony within the party and the community.

"Abiding by our moral values in our quest to put the APC Brass Ward 04 Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area and Bayelsa State on the map of progressive growth and development," he added.

The commissioner thanked his supporters and others who came out for the ceremony, and prayed for God’s continuous blessings upon their lives.

Chief Joel Opkokoro, the APC Chairman, Brass Ward 04 while welcoming Watson to the party, hailed the commissioner's defection to the APC as a bold move.

He commended the move as apt and one that will lead to the betterment of the ward and the local government area in general.

Also speaking, Hon. Dr. Amalanyo Yousuo, former Bayelsa State House of Assembly member and a chieftain of the APC in Brass Ward 04 in Okpoama expressed his happiness at Watson joining the party.

According to Yousou, the commissioner's defection to the party is a great addition to the party not only at the ward level but also at the state level.

He called for members of the party to work together as a team, respect hierarchy, and strongly kicked against factions in all facets of society.

Later, Mrs. Elizabeth Dressman, an APC chieftain in Brass ward 04 emphasized the need for unity in the party even as the party welcomes its new members.

She called for all members to see themselves as one, and work for the common good of the party and the ward.

The reception ceremony had in attendance stakeholders of the APC at the ward including chiefs, men, women, youths and party faithfuls.

The Commissioner was accompanied by; Hon. Aboye Odibikuma Coordinator Center for Women Development Bayelsa State, Hon. Ebiekimiete Beredugo -Coordinator Center for Youth Development Bayelsa State, Hon. Telimoworio Oikienkuma - Councilor Brass Ward 04 Okpoama, Hon. Rachel Apoku, Hon. Ebianga -former councilor Brass Ward 04 Okpoama, Madam Inagbo- former woman leader PDP Brass LGA amongst others.

Highpoint of the event was the handing over of the APC brooms and flags by leaders of the APC Brass Ward 04 Okpoama to Watson and his supporters.
